Glycolysis
- is the first step in the breakdown of glucose to extract energy for cellular
metabolism. Most living organisms carry out glycolysis
as part of their metabolism. The process
does not use oxygen, and can thus take place under anaerobic conditions.
Alcoholic & Lactic Acid Fermentation-
When in an anaerobic environment, some cells can use
glycolysis and fermentation to keep producing ATP
. Lactic acid fermentation happens in our
muscle cells when we are exercising feverishly, while alcoholic fermentation is used in yeast
cells
and is what leads to beer, bread, and wine.

Mitochondrion structure-
The outer membrane covers the organelle and contains it like a skin.
The inner membrane
folds over many times and creates layered structures called cristae
.
The fluid contained in the mitochondria is called the matrix.
