Diffusion- the net passive movement of particles (atoms, ions or molecules) from a region in which they are in higher concentration to regions of lower concentration.
Osmosis- the movement of water molecules through a selectively permeable membrane from higher water concentration to a lower water concentration - or - down a concentration gradient. Facilitated diffusion- a process by which substances are transported across cell membranes by means of protein carrier molecules Active transport- the movement of ions or molecules across a cell membrane into a region of higher concentration, assisted by enzymes and requiring energy. Endocytosis- A process of cellular ingestion by which the plasma membrane folds inward to bring substances into the cell. Exocytosis- is a process by which a cell transports secretory products through the cytoplasm to the plasma membrane. Secretory products are packaged into transport vesicles (membrane-bound spheres) |
